What's still open in California?

Last week the USFS announced a dismal end to summer: California National Forests are closed due to wildfire dangers, which is the majority of the mountain areas on the inland side of California. Total Escape is here to show you what areas are STILL OPEN. With most California National Forests closed for the month and the wildfires still burning, camping options narrow considerably.  Where to go? California Deserts are still too warm, so we will be featuring a few other locations. All forests and parks listed below offer camping and additional outdoor recreation opportunities. Campfires may be banned in some locations. Only ONE National Forest inside California is still open - the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest in the Eastern Sierra. California Campsites Beach Most of the beachfront camping available on the California coast is located within developed campgrounds, usually inside State Parks, National Parks, National Forests. A few located in local county parks and regional parks, and some private RV parks too. The campgrounds listed below are camp sites located on or near the Pacific Ocean. Free camping might be found on back roads near the coast, so those options are mentioned if available. California has the best beaches on the west coast & they draw millions of tourists here each year. From RV camping on the beaches of San Diego to Northern California's rural Lost Coast, we have a variety of public & private Campgrounds along the coastline for every style of camping. The best coast camping is along the scenic Central Coast of California, also known as Big Sur CA . A 100 mile stretch of natural beauty that spans from Carmel to Cayucos . Partington Cove is a great day hike with redwood forest & rocky coves; just north of Julia Pfeiffer State Park. At the southern end of the Big Sur coast, Sand Dollar Beach is a great dog friendly beach w/ Plaskett Creek Campground is directly across the street. There are camp sites in: oak canyons, on dirt roads, on ridges, on rocky bluffs, or inside dense redwood groves. Primitive camping on ridges via forest dirt roads.
